Our Story

How it all started...

Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor is part of an association of over 1,000 Calvary Chapels worldwide. The first Calvary Chapel, pastored by Chuck Smith, began in Costa Mesa, CA in the late 1960’s and found itself in the middle of a wonderful outpouring of God’s grace in which thousands of young people came to faith in Christ.
Calvary Chapel is not a hierarchical denomination; rather, it is an association of like-minded churches held together by a common faith, a common philosophy of ministry, and by genuine Christian love. At the heart of Calvary Chapel is a passion to know God through heartfelt worship and verse-by-verse Bible teaching, and to rely upon Him for daily strength and guidance.

Expanding the vision...

As God continues to lead Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor, our desire is to take the gospel beyond the walls of our church and into the communities around us. Through local outreach, serving our neighbors, and building relationships, we seek to share the love of Christ with those around us. We’re also excited to see the ministry grow through a new Bible study in Jackson, creating another opportunity for people to encounter God through His Word, grow in their faith, and connect with a community of believers.

Where we are headed...

We’re looking ahead with faith and expectation, trusting God to lead us as we grow, reach our community, and make disciples. Our desire is to see the gospel take root in more lives and communities throughout Southeast Michigan and beyond.
